Firmenich master perfumer Jacques Cavallier has recounted a story from his own childhood: his father, also a perfumer, brought home a sample intended for Roudnitska and let the young Cavallier smell it. The Pheromone Claim That Actually Held Up

In 2015, a team of cell physiologists at Ruhr University Bochum, working with colleagues at the University Hospital Dresden, published a study in the peer-reviewed journal NeuroImage. Led by Prof. Hanns Hatt, the team investigated VN1R1 — one of only five vomeronasal-type receptor genes that remain functional in humans, out of hundreds found across other mammals. Using recombinant expression systems, they confirmed Hedione specifically activates this receptor in human olfactory tissue.
