Methyl Dihydrojasmonate 80/20 (High-Cis) | Perfumery Raw Material

Methyl Dihydrojasmonate 80/20 is the high-cis grade of the classic jasmine molecule methyl dihydrojasmonate – the same aroma material that became known as Hedione®. The designation “80/20” refers to the isomer ratio: a cis content of 78–100% with at most 22% trans isomer.

The cis content is decisive – it carries the strength, transparency, radiance and diffusion of the scent. The higher the cis content, the more radiant and refined the material. This makes the 80/20 grade one of the strongest and most valuable grades of this molecule.

Note for formulators: The 80/20 grade shows its strength less in its own smell than in its effect. The higher cis content brings above all more radiance, diffusion and transparency, and helps to carry and connect the other notes of a composition. The material therefore shows best in structural use within a formula – less in a direct “scent vs. scent” comparison.

Odor

Fruity-floral: transparent jasmine with magnolia, light citrus and watery nuances – airy, radiant, natural. The perception threshold is very low (~15 ppb); the intensity is moderate, but the effect is exceptionally diffusive and luminous. Methyl dihydrojasmonate gives a composition volume, a “halo,” and connects the notes to one another.

Use in perfumery

One of the most widely used materials in modern perfumery – a “space opener” that lends radiance, transparency and volume. Ideal in jasmine and floral accords as well as in fougère, chypre, citrus and fresh, transparent compositions; it smooths and refines. Typical dosage 2–15%, overdoses up to 35% and more are possible. The molecule became known through Dior’s “Eau Sauvage” (1966), among others, and later shaped the sound of countless modern fragrances.

Safety

According to available data, methyl dihydrojasmonate is not classified as hazardous under the CLP Regulation (no signal word, no H-statements). The molecule is not among the 26 EU allergens subject to labeling; under IFRA there are generally no quantity restrictions. Not for consumption. Do not apply undiluted to the skin, avoid eye contact, work in well-ventilated areas.

Store tightly closed, dry and well-ventilated – protected from light, moisture and heat sources.
