Amber materials give a composition warmth, depth and a long-lasting base. Similar-sounding names cover different substances here, so they are grouped by chemistry.

Ambroxan (CAS 6790-58-5): one molecule, four manufacturers

• Ambrox® Super (dsm-firmenich) – pure (−)-enantiomer, biotechnological, 100% renewable carbon.
• Ambrofix™ (Givaudan) – biotechnological, from sugarcane.
• Ambermor® (IFF) – synthetic, white crystals.
• Ambroxide Cryst. (Symrise) – 100% renewable carbon.

Relatives of Ambroxan

• Ambrox® DL (dsm-firmenich) – racemate: both mirror-image forms in equal parts, elegant amber note with a woody character.
• Cetalor (IFF) – ambergris-type molecule, dry and mineral.

Woody-amber materials

• Norlimbanol® (dsm-firmenich) – dry woody amber, about one week on the blotter.
• Ambermax™ 50% (Givaudan) – according to the manufacturer, the most powerful dry amber note.
• Ambrocenide® Cryst. (Symrise) – booster with an odour threshold of 0.0013 µg/l air, effective in traces.
• Oxyoctaline Formate (Givaudan) – dry ambery with an olibanum facet, about one week on the blotter.

• Fixateur 505 E (dsm-firmenich) – amber base built around Ambrox®, powerful ambergris scent.

Natural material

• Labdanum Absolute 20% in TEC – resin of the rockrose: warm, leathery, balsamic.
