Silvanone Supra – Givaudan
Silvanone Supra is not a single molecule but a proven duo: two macrocyclic musk compounds that together yield a sweet-powdery, slightly animalic character with a nitro-musk hint – and with a dosage range that goes far beyond what most other musk materials allow.
Odor character
- Musky (official sensory profile)
- Sweet, powdery, slightly animalic, with a nitro-musk facet (manufacturer's description)
- Full body, highly substantive and long-lasting
- Colorless to pale yellow, liquid
Role in the formula
Silvanone Supra is a blend of two macrocyclic musk compounds: cyclopentadecanone (also known in the trade as "Exaltone") and hexadecanolide, dissolved in isopropyl myristate. According to the manufacturer it is highly substantive and long-lasting and can be used in practically all application areas to lend compositions body and tenacity. It blends well with woody and ambered notes and lends floral creations – particularly demanding white flowers, spicy clove and oriental accords – additional richness. Notable is the officially stated usage range of up to 20% – a considerably wider window than most other musk materials in our range.
Use in perfumery
Silvanone Supra is suited to musk accords, white-flower compositions, spicy clove accords and oriental and woody-ambered structures. Its character changes noticeably with dosage: at higher concentration it appears more nuanced and slightly metallic, while in fine dilution the powdery and musky facets unfold most clearly.
Practical note: dissolving, storing, combining
Dissolving: Supplied as a 70% solution in isopropyl myristate, and therefore readily miscible with ethanol, DPG and common perfumery solvents.
Storing: Store at 10–30 °C, dry, protected from light, keep containers tightly closed.
Combining: Blends well with woody and ambered notes. Givaudan itself lists Silvanone Supra in official teaching formulas, for instance in a men's cologne structure together with tonka-bean resinoid, elemi resin and ethylene brassylate. It is also worth testing in combination with other musk materials from our range, such as Ambrettolide or Velvione, for multi-layered musk accords.
Safety information
Silvanone Supra is classified under GHS as hazardous to water (Aquatic Acute 1 and Aquatic Chronic 1, H400/H410 – very toxic to aquatic life, also with long-lasting effects). Unlike many other aroma molecules, there is no classification for skin or eye irritation or sensitization.
The flash point is above 100 °C. For transport, the classification UN 3082, Class 9, Packing Group III, applies, as a marine pollutant. In Germany this corresponds to water hazard class 2.
