ISO E Super® by IFF
Woody-cedar molecule for professional perfumery
ISO E Super® is no obscure raw material.
It is the molecule that carries a world-famous niche fragrance all on its own – a composition built from a single ingredient that nonetheless sells in the millions.
That says more about ISO E Super® than any technical description.
IFF's woody-cedar molecule has been among the most widely used raw materials in perfumery for decades – in niche and mainstream, in women's and men's fragrances, in base and structural accords. It rarely takes center stage. Often it is the reason a composition works at all.
ISO E Super® reshapes a formula through volume, projection and a characteristic halo effect: at low dosages it is barely perceptible – and yet changes everything. At high concentrations: a dry, almost animalic woody signature. Unmistakable.
Odor profile of ISO E Super®
ISO E Super® is commonly perceived as:
- dry cedarwood
- velvety woodiness
- warm mineral facets
- floral-woody nuances
- a light ambery depth
- subtle skin warmth
- animalic warmth at high dosages
- a long-lasting drydown
The scent reads dry, warm and clearly contoured. Pronounced sweetness or heavy woody notes are not in the foreground. The effect is perceived less as a single note – more as an added dimension: more space, more warmth, more presence.
What is ISO E Super® used for in perfumery?
- building woody and cedar accords
- improving tenacity and substantivity
- enhancing diffusion and projection
- building a woody-cedar base
- supporting woody, amber and musk compositions
- refining the drydown
- adding depth and volume
- creating a skin-close woody effect
- fine fragrance and niche perfumery
- body care, deodorants, shampoo and soaps
One of the best-known properties of ISO E Super® is the halo effect: even small amounts markedly influence the perception of depth and tenacity – without the material itself standing in the foreground. After its addition a composition often seems not louder, but more velvety, warmer and longer-lasting.
ISO E Super® can be used both as a fixative and as a character-defining element. At low dosages it supports tenacity, spatial impact and cohesion. At higher dosages it shapes the composition with dry woodiness and a distinctive woody-cedar signature.
Synthetic origin
ISO E Super® is produced synthetically by IFF and belongs to the group of iso-cyclo compounds. The product is stabilized with 0.15% tocopherol.
